
Description
The European Commission is pleased to offer grants to students enrolled in higher education institutes and programmes in the European Union who are interested in attending the Living Planet Symposium 2025, which will be held in Vienna, Austria, on 23–27 June.
ESA is coordinating these grants on behalf of the European Commission as a part of the EU–ESA Copernicus Programme cooperation.
In addition ESA Academy will offer 5 additional student grants thanks to the ESA – Conference Student Sponsorship programme.

Application process
If you are an MSc, PhD or Postdoc student enrolled at a higher education institute, such as a university or college etc., in an EU member state or a participating state to the EU Copernicus programme, you are eligible for a LPS25 student grant.
To apply for the grant, you must provide the following information:
- Personal information and contact points
- CV two pages in PDF
- Copy of ID document
- Proof of enrolment as a full-time MSc, PhD or Post-doc student in a high-education establishment in an EU member state.
- Cover letter detailing your motivation to attend LPS25, mentioning what you hope to learn and why you consider yourself a good candidate to be sponsored. Please reference your ability to promote LPS25 sessions and outcomes before and after the conference.
- If you submitted an abstract or a poster to the LPS25 please provide the assigned abstract ID or title.

Terms and Conditions for Participation in the Copernicus Student Grants for the 2025 Living Planet Symposium.
Eligibility to apply for the grant
In order to be eligible to apply for the LPS25 Copernicus student grant:
- at the time of application, the applicant must be enrolled as a full-time MSc, PhD student or a Postdoc researcher in a university in one of the EU member states or Copernicus participating state,
- the applicant must demonstrate that their research, studies, thesis or project work is directly relevant to one or more of the LPS25 topics,
- applicants who have submitted an abstract to LPS25 and have been accepted, either for an oral or poster presentation, are particularly welcome to apply.
Extent and method of sponsorship
The LPS25 Copernicus student grant sponsorship is intended to cover the cost of participating students’ travel fare (economy) from designated departure points to the conference location as well as the cost of accommodation, local transport and other living expenses.
The students awarded the grant can claim a maximum of €600 as a partial reimbursement of his or her costs.
The grant will be paid after the LPS25 conference, and this will be based on original receipts and proof of payments.
In all cases, students will be responsible for arranging of their own travel, their registration to LPS25, accommodation and expenses in Vienna.
Students must make their own arrangements for passports, visas, travel insurance and medical insurance.
For reimbursement, students must provide all the required documents, confirmations and receipts in a timely manner for processing (no longer than six weeks after the symposium).
Conditions of sponsorship LPS25 Copernicus student grant
Students who are selected for and accept the LPS25 Copernicus student grant conditions commit to taking the following actions:
- During the symposium
- Attend sessions, particularly those that relate to Copernicus
- Promote LPS25 on social media and other available outlets
- At the end of the conference
- Participate in the post-conference survey
- Report their experience and promote LPS25 objectives in their respective communities
Conditions of sponsorship ESA Academy
To be eligible for ESA Academy sponsorship, student should:
- contribute to the conference (oral presentation, posters, other);
- be minimum 18 years old at the time of conference;
- be a citizen of an ESA Member State, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania or Slovakia;
- be enrolled in a tertiary education academic programme (not graduating before the conference);
- not benefit from an overlapping financial support to attend this conference, unless duly justified;
- agree with the conditions of the ESA Academy Privacy Policy.
Selected students for Esa Academy grants will be asked to agree with the Student Terms and Conditions of the programme
Liability
Applicants must act, at all times, in such a manner that is consistent with the EU’s and ESA reputation and statute, and in a manner that does not harm the EU’s and ESA reputation and status, or the reputation and envisaged positive impact of the LPS25.
The EU and ESA shall not be held liable for any damage, including:
- bodily injury, impairment of health, or death of any person
- damage to or loss of any property
- loss of revenue or profits
- other direct, indirect, or consequential damage caused by the student participating in the event
Students are not covered by any EU medical or travel insurance and as such are required to make appropriate arrangements for their own medical, repatriation and travel insurance, including coverage for loss of, or damage to their belongings. EU and ESA reserve the right to amend these terms and conditions without prior notice.
